Cape Coral Aluminum and Chain Link Fences
On a canal, or putting in a pool? You need an open fence that meets the City's rules.
Aluminum and chain link are the two open fences we install. Call (239) 341-6184 and tell us about your lot.
The canal and waterfront rule
City code (LDC 5.2.7.B.2): fencing within 20 ft of the rear property line on waterfront sites must be open mesh above 3 ft.
City code (LDC 5.2.7.B.4): no fence may unreasonably block an adjoining lot's canal view.
What that means for your yard:
- In the back 20 ft, anything solid stops at 3 ft.
- Above 3 ft, the fence has to be open mesh.
- Your fence shouldn't wall off your neighbor's view of the canal.
The City may ask for 75% Open Mesh Calculations with the permit, along with manufacturer specs. Those depend on the fence.
Why open fences fit the water
Salt air. Aluminum has no iron, so it suits canal salt air. Canal-front homes often pick powder-coated aluminum. For chain link near the water, vinyl-coated is the better choice over plain galvanized.
Wind. Open pickets and chain link mesh let wind pass through instead of pushing against a solid wall.
The view. You keep your look at the water, and so does your neighbor.
Aluminum
Picket-style aluminum is the usual pick for canal yards and pools. It's open, it suits salt air, and it can meet pool barrier height.
Chain link
Chain link is the simple, open option. It suits high-wind spots and comes vinyl-coated for coastal yards. One City rule: chain link is allowed without slats only. No privacy slats woven in.
Pool barriers
Putting in a pool, or fencing one you have? Here are the rules.
City of Cape Coral pool rules:
- The pool area, or the entire rear yard, must be enclosed by a fence at least 4 ft high.
- On a waterfront yard, the pool fence runs to the water side of the seawall cap.
- The barrier must be done before the pool is filled over 24 inches.
- After a hurricane, if the barrier is down, a temporary 4 ft mesh barrier goes up within 10 days. It can stay up to 90 days.
Florida Statute 515.29:
- The barrier is at least 4 ft high, measured on the outside.
- Gates open outward, away from the pool.
- Gates are self-closing and self-latching.
- The latch release is on the pool side.
We go over gate placement and swing with you at the measure. Gate that won't latch on a fence you already have? See fence repair.
What moves the price
Footage, aluminum or chain link, height, the number of gates, pool-code gates, coastal hardware on canal lots, removal of an old fence, and the permit. The fence cost calculator gives a rough range for standard 4 to 5 ft aluminum and for chain link. For 6 ft aluminum, call (239) 341-6184.
How it works
- 1
Call or send the form. Tell us if it's a canal lot, a pool, or both.
- 2
We measure and mark the rear 20 ft zone and the pool line.
- 3
If the job needs a permit, we'll walk you through what the City requires. Then the fence and gates go up and the City inspects them.
